Family in Feast and Feria

Four years ago today my husband and I were standing in St. Peter's Square listening to Pope John Paul II declare the words

We declare and define Blessed Josemaría Escrivá de Balaguer to be a Saint, and We inscribe his name in the catalogue of the Saints, ordaining that, throughout the universal Church, he be devoutly honored among the Saints. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

What wonderful memories for dh and me. For dh, it was his first trip overseas, and first time to ever see the Pope up close. What a blessing to be in that Square with the hundreds of thousands to celebrate the life of a very holy man, Saint Josemaría Escrivá de Balaguer!

How awesome it was at the words of the consecration at Mass to see so many people kneeling down to adore Christ in the Eucharist. Despite the huge crowd, everyone was so reverent. It was so quiet at the elevation of the host and chalice you could hear the birds chirping.

Our special intention to the new Saint was to send us a blessing of a child. We had been married 3 years and no success. Almost to the day, one year later, our child was born.

So it is with gratitude and joy that we recall this day, our trip, and constantly behold our son, the answer to our prayers.
